Casa del Sol
I do not know how I came up with this idea – it has been years since I created this piece for one of the first quilt “shows” I was in. The Quilt Alliance (https://quiltalliance.org) advertised for pieces for an auction called “Put a Roof Over our Heads”. They were moving to North Carolina, and thus the shape of the piece had to have a roof – thus the shape of this piece. I also belonged to an online quilting group, and it was there that I met my friend from England (Lorchen), and a friend from Texas as well. Those two figured out how they were going to buy this piece in the U.S. and get it all the way to England where Lorchen lives. I have seen her phone, and the picture of this happy face is still on her phone! I had just learned how to do the paper piecing of the triangles, and I had been learning how to do the embroidery…and i certainly knew how to bead. I thought it would be fun to have a sunny house with the sun wearing her crown, and so that is what I put together. It is a small piece – about 15 by 20 inches, I think. It got published and that made me happy.
