Families Torn Asunder
First of all, Families Torn Asunder was inspired, as was Bureaucratic Red Tape, by the tearing apart of families.
Secondly, the faces included as a detail show how all the faces for most of my pieces were created. I have several (3 – 5) layers of nylon net of varying colors piled up and stitched together and then a piece of Sulky Solvey on top with a hand drawn design, which I then stitch on using black King Tut Egyptian Cotton thread, the darning foot on the machine with the feed dogs down so i can hand manipulate the drawing under the needle as I desire. When I am finished Sewing, I wash out the solvey and have a piece of “face lace” which I can put on a quilt.
I choose to do this method as the layers of stitching make using a piece of regular fabric all wavy as I am packing in so much more thread count.
