Barb’s Purple Quilt
I am an only child. BUT I have a cousin/sister. Barb was born in August and I followed along in December of the same year. Our mothers were sisters, and good friends, so we would drive up to Chicago, or take the train, and Barb’s family would come down to Urbana, Illinois to see us. In the summer Barb would come to stay with us often because Chicago is a big city and her mom was working and according to our mothers “it wasn’t safe”. We didn’t always agree on everything, but we loved each other and even got to go to college together for awhile. We both LOVED kitties, and I did make a kitty quilt for Barb, but the last time I saw it – it was a very tired looking quilt. Since I had been learning all the new techniques, I made Barb one of my first quilts with crowns. This is not a good picture, but it is the only one I have. I didn’t totally know what I was doing design-wise, But the basics are there. I don’t remember why I created the border with half crowns, but it does give it an interesting twist. I know the yellow triangles were put in because I needed something for the center – I hadn’t learned how to be as precise in my measurements as I became over time. BUT we have lots of crowns creating a garden with a sunny border.
