Butterflies in the Orchid Garden
This piece was my first attempt to enter the Hoffman Challenge which is a yearly quilt challenge show in which the Hoffmann fabric Company creates a set of fabric and asks quilters to show what can be done with them. When you go to art school one of the things you hear a lot is “Well, first of all, You HAVE to be GOOD!! That was drummed into all of us. I had the fabric, I had ideas, I had this quilt on the design wall for weeks, worrying about how best to proceed and make it perfect. It is a very small piece for me as the finished piece can only be 42 by 42 inches. I tend to create pieces that fit on a queen or King sized bed, so I was very challenged ust by the size requirements. I no longer have the piece as a friend bought it for his wife many years ago. It is beaded as well as pieced. And, yes, the piece was accepted and toured the country for a year.Â
