Earth Floating With Mantle
This is one of my most favorite quilts as it is, in my eyes, strong in its design presence. This is the first of three quilts that are rather a triplet set. First, I will explain the center “crown”, which on the next two multiplied to four on each quilt. My daughter, Jamie drew a picture of a circle design with red and black triangles in which one fourth of the circle was larger – extended from the rest. As soon as I saw the drawing I knew I would be creating a quilt with that inspiration. Because the circle worked best in quarters, I included the orange cross. By placing the horizontal and vertical orange lines from the center to the outside of the quilt, but having the brown/golds overlap, all of a sudden I had squares floating on top of the black and white. When you are in front of this quilt – it pulls you in visually because of the depth that isn’t really there, but looks like it. I “nailed” the diagonals as well, so your eye flows across to the other side of the floating pieces.
