Pecan Pie in a Sunny Garden of Pansies

This quilt was created to go with the Blueberry Pie quilt. Both husband and wife are good friends and in payment for a gift they gave our family I asked what were the husband’s favorite colors – red, blue and yellow or gold I was told. (A primary color triadic color scheme!) He thinks highly of my quilts, but also the pecan pies I have made over the years, so I searched, and was able to find pecan fabric and put it in the middle with the “Jamie” crown going around it. This piece does not float as much visually, but the horizontal and vertical strips do give it depth because of how they are placed.  I knew the family loved gardens, so I was searching for the right flowers and happened to have a pansy print in primarily red, yellow and blue. When he saw the piece, he asked me how I knew his favorite flower was a pansy. I admitted I had no idea, it was just luck that it came to together so well.Â
