Solarus

Speaking of the sun…this was a piece I created to learn how to make the center star. There is a lot of triangle paper piecing in this quilt. The title of all those triangles is New York Beauty. I have never found anything printed that makes a direct connection between The Statue of Liberty and New york  Beauty quilts, but I call all those arched triangles her crown, or just crown points for short. The yellow print for this quilt was a “gift”. In other words, it was a piece I had that is actually a batik with butterflies in it that is just fiery – visually- and works so well as an illustration of the sun. This piece hangs in the choir room of Ascension and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Wyoming, Ohio. One of the members who also sang in the choir bought it and gave it to the choir room. I had given three quilts to my good friend and told her that if she could get any money for the quilts, that was how I could pay back for their support of our family during a difficult time for us.
